As early as a teenager, Douglas started writing software gaming programs, and other software programs for his personal computer. Douglas’s early work in coding began as a web developer. From web development, Douglas went to work as a coder for the technology industry. While working as a coder, he developed programs in his spare time and eventually went into business for himself.
Starting His Own Business
After starting his own business, Douglas’s first customer involved developing an inventory software program for a manufacturing type business. From that first business sale, it took about a year before his company became profitable. Luckily, for Douglas, he had saved a year’s worth of personal savings that kept him afloat until he became profitable.
Knight is a big believer in LinkedIn and has used it extensively in expanding his business. Several of his previous and present clients have given his company excellent recommendations. Douglas also uses Twitter, which he feels is an excellent avenue for brand recognition of this company.
Douglas’s makes the bulk of his company’s income from billings to clients for consultations and from his company’s mobile games. Currently, the majority of his business’s earnings comes from client consultations.

What are Douglas’s hobbies? Like his keen interest in building software programs, his second love is woodworking. In his spare time, he has made many pieces of furniture for his home. Douglas also has made furniture for his friends.
His interest in woodworking stems from his childhood. As a child, he grew up in older homes in the New England area. As an adult, his interest in this old architecture led to his woodworking hobby.
Douglas likes the fact that his woodworking hobby gets him away from his office and like the hands-on experience of designing his plans on paper and then implementing his design into a beautiful piece of furniture. Douglas’s woodworking hobby is quite extensive in his equipment and tools. He owned many tools, woodworking equipment, and supplies. His favorite place to buy woodworking is his local home improvement store. Sometimes late in the evenings, Douglas likes shopping the home improvement stores when the stores are not busy. Also, he loves going online and buying some of the higher quality woodworking equipment his local home improvement store does not offer.
Favorite Activites
Douglas loves to run. He has run several half-marathons. In addition to keeping Douglas in shape; he considers it a chance for him to think, and not have to overload his mind with endless texts and emails.
Also for relaxation, Douglas has played the trombone since he was in the fifth grade. Once he became prominent in his career, he bought himself a new trombone and stated retaking lessons. Douglas is also part of a brass ensemble, and he and his band members play locally.
Knight believes the future holds a host of opportunities for his company. At this point in his career, Knight is looking to the next step in his business’s growth. Douglas has hopes to turn his business into a full-time consultation business.
